CARE and MAINTENANCE OF METALS
CARING FOR YOUR GOLD PIECES
Gold jewelry does not typically corrode or tarnish, however, your piece should be cleaned from regular exposure to soap, body oils, dirt and grease. It is important to remember that gold is a softer metal and more susceptible to damage. Gold pieces regularly used as well as pieces used infrequently should be cleaned once a quarter. This will extend the life of your jewelry with little maintenance while not cleaning so frequently as to damage the metal.
Solid gold pieces: Soak for approximately 15 minutes, and lightly brush your piece with an extra soft bristled toothbrush.
Gold pieces with gemstones: Do not soak in soapy mixture, instead dip your extra soft bristled toothbrush into the soapy mixture and lightly brush your piece. Rinse your piece with warm water and ensure it is free from any soapy residue. Let air dry without touching other pieces (so as to not scratch or damage the metal) or dry with a soft dry cloth. In between quarterly cleanings you can use a soft cloth and rub the surface of your pieces. Repeated exposure to harsh cleaning chemicals, chlorine and soaps can dull your gold metals leading to more frequent cleanings and possibly, eventual scratching or breakdown of the gold. It is recommended that you remove your pieces before utilizing these types of chemicals. Due to the higher risk of damage to gold jewelry, it is advised to store your gold pieces in a way that will not risk scratching or bending your piece out of shape. This can be done by storing your pieces separately or wrapping your gold pieces in a soft cloth.
Quarterly cleaning recommendation: Create a soapy mixture using a small amount of mild ammonia free and phosphate free dish detergent and warm water.
CARING FOR YOUR RHODIUM PLATED & SILVER PIECES
Maintaining your silver pieces can be as simple as using a buffing cloth to clean your jewelry. If this does not work, create a soapy mixture using a small amount of mild ammonia free and phosphate free dish detergent and warm water while using an extra soft toothbrush to lightly brush your piece, followed by a thorough rinse.
There are a lot of commercial silver jewelry cleaners out there, however, we do not recommend using these products as these chemicals could lodge under gemstone settings or eventually lead to erosion of your metals.
CARING FOR YOUR BLACK RHODIUM PIECES
Black rhodium plated jewelry is a beautiful and unusual metal. It is important to recognize that these products will require touch up maintenance due to regular wear and tear. To clean these products we recommend lightly buffing with a soft cloth only. We do not recommend chemical cleaning of any black rhodium pieces.
CARING FOR YOUR PEARLS AND OPAQUE PIECES
Pearls and opaque stones (such as opals and onyx stones) are especially fragile. We do not recommend using any type of commercial cleaner for jewelry pieces containing pearls and opaque stones as these types of products can damage the stones.
